ABOUT PSC

The Philadelphia Sports Congress (PSC), a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, seeks to attract major sporting events and conventions to the Philadelphia area. The Sports Congress, working in conjunction with the City of Philadelphia, the city's professional teams and universities, has twenty-plus years of experience attracting national and international events to the region. From the patriotic Army/Navy Game to the more radical X Games, Philadelphia has earned a reputation as one of the country's leading sports destinations.

Following is a quick look at some of the Philadelphia Sports Congress' finest moments over the last 20 years:

  • Fifteen Army/Navy Games, "Philadelphia's Bowl Game," which PSC is proud to produce on behalf of the City, in conjunction with the Eagles and the service academies. Since 1890, Philadelphia has hosted 80 Army/Navy Games.
  • Crowds of more than 40,000 each attended U.S. National Soccer Team Games against DNEPR and Sheffield Wednesday at Franklin Field (1989) and Veterans Stadium (1991).
  • Several major international soccer matches at Lincoln Financial Field since 2003, including FIFA Women's World Cup matches in 2003.
  • All-Star Games galore, including the NHL (1992), MLB (1996) and NBA (2002).
  • A triumphant return to the East Coast for the ESPN X Games, which drew record crowds at the Wachovia Center and events throughout the city in 2001 and 2002.
  • The U.S. Figure Skating Championships & Olympic Trials at the Wachovia Center in 1998, starring Michele Kwan and many Olympic hopefuls.
  • Numerous Men's and Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament match-ups over the years, with the 1991 Duke/Kentucky Eastern Regional Final overtime thriller leading the way.
  • The 2000 NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four, featuring a Tennessee/Connecticut championship game.
  • Gymnastics events, including the 2001 U.S. Championships and 2006 Tyson American Cup. The 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics, will be at the Wachovia Center this June.
  • Record-breaking crowds for the 2005 & 2006 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships, and the 2007 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championships.
  • Many sports-related conventions, including the National Soccer Coaches Association, U.S. Lacrosse, National Sports Forum, U.S. Youth Soccer Association, U.S. Olympic Committee Board of Directors and many others.

Add in dozens of other events, from Volleyball to Field Hockey to Dragon Boat Racing, and you have a very busy, exciting and rewarding 20 years of sports in Philadelphia.
